The Stages of Sleep


There are 5 stages of sleep.
1: Non -REM(rapid eye movement)
  • Between sleep and wake
  • Brain waves relax
2: Non-REM
  • Light sleep
  • Person can be easily woken
  • Deeper stage of relaxation
3&4: Non-REM
  • Person is generally unresponsive
  • Heartbeat and respiration rate decrease
  • Muscles relax
5:REM
  • Eyes twitch
  • Heart rate and breathing become more irregular
